The time of the judges cannot
be determined completely or accurately. From Moses to the 4th year
of Solomon is 483 years (not including the time of Joshua). There are also
times of servitude under Philistine, Midian, and Ammon of 111 years.
If one were to add this time in sequence to the 483 years, the total number
of years would be 594 years. One can not determine whether any of these
judges ruled at the same time (other than the reference to Shamgar in 3:31).
Some ruled from different regions so it is possible some could have reigned
at the same time. However, the reference in 1 Kings 6:1 states that
it was the 480th year of the exodus that Solomon begins to build the temple.
Therefore, using only the references from the Bible and trusting in
the word of God to be accurate and true we will have to use this reference
of 480 years. (See the following note.)

To calculate total years since
the captivity of Judah to the present time we will have to base our calculation
on historical records. Since there are no specific dates found in the scriptures
we will have to trust in the accuracy of recorded history and archeological
findings. According to history, the year of the captivity of Judah by King
Nebuchadnezzar was 587 B.C. This would give us 587 years until the end of
the BC era (before the common era). Present day time would begin with year one. Therefore, it
will only be necessary to add 586 years (year 587 is 3424)plus our present
year to our original total of 3424 years. This will give us the total number
of years of man on earth since the creation of Adam. Thus we have the following
calculation for the year 2005 A.D.
