CHAPTER 1
- Naomi and her husband moved
to the land of Moab.
- Ruth returned with Naomi to
Bethlehem.
CHAPTER 2
- Ruth went to the fields of
Boaz, a close relative.
- Boaz told his workers to
leave sheaves and grain behind on purpose so Ruth would glean it.
CHAPTER 3
- Naomi instructed Ruth to wash
and anoint herself and put on her best garment and to lie down at the feet
of Boaz (Ruth lied down as a servant as was the custom in those days)
after he had eaten and fallen asleep. This was to give him the opportunity
to redeem his close relative's property, as was the custom of the law.
- Ruth was known as a virtuous
woman among the town.
- Boaz sent Ruth back with six
ephahs of barley for her and her mother-in-law.
CHAPTER 4
- He redeemed the property of
Elimelech taking care of Naomi and then married Ruth.
- The relative took off his
sandal before the people and the elders at the gate and gave it to the
other relative to signify the sale.
- King David was of the line of
Boaz. Boaz begot Obed, Obed begot Jesse, and Jesses begot David.
