CHAPTER 1
- The locusts are the army of
Babylon who besieged Judah for the last eleven or more years.
- The fields of Judah were
barren and the fruit trees destroyed. There was no pasture for the animals
and the brooks were dried up.
CHAPTER 2
- The sun, moon, and stars
being darkened usually means that calamity and judgment is coming. (The
sun, moon, and stars could represent the leaders and people under
oppression with no help or word from God)
- Judah could be saved if they
were to rend their hearts instead of their garments.
- God would bless those who
repent and will restore all that had been destroyed.
- God would pour out His Spirit
to everyone after the death and resurrection of Jesus.
- The sun and moon will be
darkened and turn to blood before the coming of the Lord at the time of
the end and the Great Tribulation (Rev 6:12-17).
- The remnant God calls who
know God and have been calling on Him will be delivered from
confusion and darkness. They will have direction and salvation.
CHAPTER 3
- The Valley of Jehoshaphat is
the place where God will judge the nations who come against Israel (and
against all believers in Jesus). (Rev 16:16; 19:11-21)
- The nations will be judged
and put into the great winepress of the wrath of God (14:18-20).
